Whether you're enjoying a session in the home gym, local park or somewhere a little more commercial; make sure you're wearing one of these.
It feels like months since I last did any squatting, so I decided to warm up with a few sets this afternoon. Nothing terribly heavy, and using the bench as a box, but it still felt good. Time to bring them back into the workouts on a regular basis.
Today’s was a rack pull only session, and after last week’s adventure I was a bit more careful to ensure I was thoroughly warmed up before starting the heavy work sets. No problems at all - still, I opted to leave the accessory work until tomorrow morning. The pulls alone took quite enough out of me.
Rack pull (just above knee height) 2×10@60/132, 2×10@100/225, 2×5@140/308, 8×3@160/352

Nothing like rack pulls and box squats on a frosty winter day. It’s been extremely cold in the northeastern US. Around -14 F at my house last night. I just shudder thinking of you out in your garage. Brrr….

The cold (and it’s nowhere near as bad as -14F - that’s getting pretty serious) mainly seems to hit between exercises. The time it takes to strip the weights at the end of one exercise, and set up for the next, is often enough to begin feeling it (which is why I usually focus on 1 or 2 exercises in a session). Once you start lifting it isn’t too bad.
Besides, rack pulls are too much fun to avoid :)

I hope you have at least a space heater in there, Scott. Brrrrrrr. Sounds like you are getting closer to normal workouts again, and it doesn’t seem like you lost much, either.

No room for a space heater I’m afraid. Unfortunately the garages are all together, and separate from the houses (so we don’t own the land outside the garage). Inside the garage it’s pretty tight - just enough room for a rack (with bench permanently inside it) and a stack of weights. I’m testing the ‘minimum space required’ idea :)
As for getting back to normal workouts, pretty close to it. I don’t think I’ve lost much strength, but it’s amazing how weak and unfit you feel after taking a bit of time off. Takes a week or two to get back to normal.

Thanks John. I could still feel it two days later, so I guess they did something :)
