Whether you're enjoying a session in the home gym, local park or somewhere a little more commercial; make sure you're wearing one of these.
I was originally only going to vary grips on the DE BENCH days, but decided to try it out again in place of today’s usual max climb. This time the wide grip came along for the ride - certainly helping to warm things up. There’s a fine line between warming up and pre-exhaustion.
Before getting started, I was finally convinced to dump a couple of cans of tuna in the blender. The shake of choice was the extremely simple Orange Tuna Shake on Jesse Marunde’s site. Nowhere near as bad as I’d expected (although I had pretty low hopes), but not something I’ll be rushing to make again. The blended tuna is actually quite nice, but when mixed with juice it takes on a whole new persona.
I managed to squeeze out another few reps on the seated half press. Hopefully my muscular endurance is getting back up to reasonable levels - I think I’ll focus on endurance rather than raw strength gains for a month or two. At least until I can survive half a dozen exercises without collapsing in a heap.
Bench press (15°) 2×20@20/44, 2×10@30/66, 2×10@40/88
Bench press (15°, wide grip) 4×3@50/110
Bench press (15°, normal grip) 4×3@50/110
Bench press (15°, close grip) 4×3@50/110
Seated Half press 3×8@50/110
Pendlay row 4×8@50/110

Oh, go on. I’m sure tuna shakes can be wonderful things - just not that one. Have you tried any that aren’t all that bad?

Nice workout, like John said lots of volume there. And tuna shakes…wow…yeah I read some site about it a long time ago and thought it was a joke…

Sorry I have to return to my original tuna shake comment. Ew. ew. ewwww.
It’s like when they started selling ‘heart health’ milk here, which bombed when everyone read ‘contains marine oil’ on the side.

I’m sure that quite a few of the tuna shake recipes around the place are just jokes - but blended tuna itself really isn’t that bad. More experimenting to be done :)

That bench workout must have felt great, covering all your bases. Is this something you plan to do more often, or were you just mixing it up?
BTW, tuna is meant to be put on top of a dollop of rice and wrapped in seaweed, not inside of a blender. Bleeech!!!

Yep, the workout felt great. I’ll certainly be doing things that way again.
It sounds like I’m the only one game (or foolish) enough to put the tuna in a blender. It’s also good when mixed with boiled eggs and sweetcorn. Not in a blender though.

The best way to eat tuna is right from the can with your nose plugged. Four or so big scoops and your done.

Plug your nose? You don’t sound like a tuna fan :)
