Whether you're enjoying a session in the home gym, local park or somewhere a little more commercial; make sure you're wearing one of these.
Thanks John. Gave the Pendlay Rows a quick run this morning, and they certainly force you to focus on form. I tried them using an underhand grip (which is how I do normal bent rows) as well as overhand - definitely the winner for these. Out of interest, does everyone else use an underhand or overhand grip for bent rows?

I always use an overhand grip, underhand grip used to bother my elbows so I got out of the habit of using it.
I’m going to have to try these tuesday instead of bent over rows.

Overhand grip on bent over rows.

nice weight on the rows.
with underhand it takes some stress off the lats and brings the biceps more into play - not necessarily a bad thing. i did them like that for awhile when i first started rowing and found them (yates rows) useful.
as for pendlays id imagine that they would be better performed overhand, mostly because of the width of the grip - but i wouldnt worry about it :)
out of curiousity where are you normal grips for rows?
mine are thumbless with…
BB style BOR : index fingers on smooth
pendlay : little finger on rings

John, I’ve been doing the bent rows with a fairly wide (about an inch inside the rings) underhand grip. With the Pendlays I took this out a little wider, and felt a lot more comfortable overhand.
As for thumbless, I’ve never tried it but it sounds as though it’d be comfortable with an underhand grip.

I use pendlay rows and have for awhile now. I always use an onverhand grip with pinkies on the rings. I intend to videotape these the next time I do them and put it up on my blog. I’ve found the best rows to use an underhand grip on are the 70 degree upright rowing ala Dorian Yates. BTW, good call on chimaira. JM Blakley introduced me to them and I’ve listened to them ever since.

hey someone else who uses yates rows. yates is a bit of a legend - not too well known over here considering he’s english.

Yeah, Yates seems to be better known overseas - he was certainly known to me in Sydney before I came over here. The first time I actually heard the term ‘Yates rows’ though was on Dave Draper’s site. Been using the underhand grip ever since.
