Whether you're enjoying a session in the home gym, local park or somewhere a little more commercial; make sure you're wearing one of these.
The other night I caught a re-run of Seinfeld episode ‘The Cadillac’. Kramer finally takes revenge on a cable company representative who failed to turn up on time; 10 years earlier. That’s precisely how I felt this morning when, after waiting for several hours and making numerous increasingly heated phone calls, a plumber failed to show.
A few sets of reasonably heavy bottom squats were in order. Thankfully the rack showed its true value when the last couple of reps turned into impromptu good mornings. Enough for now I think.
Bottom-up squat: worked up to 3@80/176

I know exactly how you feel Scott. I’ve had the same problems with a variety of different people (telephone, cable company etc).

So you’re looking to earn the money from the Bud Jeffries chellenge, eh?

Eh, not quite Jon :) I do like the bottom squats at times of stress though as they don’t seem to need as much concentration as other lifts. It’s pretty hard to get it seriously wrong.

I heard about that Challenge, Jon. Not for us mere mortals … a grand from the bottom. How did they feel, Scott?

I actually prefer these to free squats in many ways - particularly when your mind isn’t entirely in the gym with you. As they eliminiate the walkout, there’s less chance of doing something stupid because you’re thinking of something else.
From another standpoint (in regular workouts) they have the benefit of eliminating the stretch reflex. I certainly wouldn’t do things this way all the time, but it does force you to focus on keeping tight and in the right position coming out of the hole.
