Whether you're enjoying a session in the home gym, local park or somewhere a little more commercial; make sure you're wearing one of these.
Just a quick squat session today.
At the risk of sounding a little weird (perhaps a bit late for that comment), I hate walking backwards with a bar on my back. To the point of looking for any excuse not to do it. This makes squats - at least until I find myself the proud owner of a monolift - particularly frustrating.
In an attempt to overcome this most irrational behaviour I’ve adopted a squat/bottom squat split; with the emphasis slowly growing toward the free squat. Otherwise I tend to walkout the shortest distance possible, just clearing the rack. Minimising energy expenditure I guess.
Squat
2×20@20/44
2×20@40/88
2×10@60/132
Bottom squat
2×10@80/176
2×10@100/225

That’s a strange fear, are you worried about tripping with it? Is it only a problem when there are weights on the bar or will an empty bar bother you just as much?

An empty bar isn’t too bad, so it’s probably a case of thinking about ‘what would happen if…’. The more weight, the worse it gets.
I suspect it’s just a case of squatting until I get used to it. Or get that monolift :)

Or you could just load a bar up and do backward laps around the block :D

Just know what you’ll do if something goes wrong. Even practice it a bit. Then you’ll instinctively respond if something does go wrong. If you plan on competing many feds don’t have a monolift and you’ll have to walk max attempts out.
