This reminds me remarkably of the Free Motion cable chest press. It’s a real stabilization challenge. You will find that you can push substantially less weight than you can even with dumbbells.

Yes, I like the look of this one - and that sounds like a good comparison. Have you considered adding a couple of bands to your arsenal? They’re great for stuff like this.
