Protein Shakes from Starbucks
share it: digg | stumbleupon | del.icio.us (what are these?)
Via Slashfood : as strange as it may seem, I’ve never actually tried a beverage from Starbucks. That may change, however, with the Vivanno. The drink contains :
- One whole banana
- Whey protein (16 grams) and fibre powder (5 grams)
- Choice of milk (default is 2%)
- Ice
- Starbucks proprietary Orange-Mango juice
Sounds great. Anyone tried one yet?

Now here’s to hoping Starbucks won’t charge $20 each for one of these smoothies/shakes.

I went to Starbucks last night on a whim, not knowing they had these and decided to try one. I had the Orange-Mango-Banana one; it wasn’t that bad, tasted more like banana than anything, but that was expected. Even still, if people are getting this rather than a 500+ calorie sugar-drink, that’s cool with me.

Yes, I had the chocolate one yesterday. Starbucks PR people brought free ones into our news meeting (perks of working for TV news!). I’m sorry to say, it tasted like cardboard. I know that’s a cliche for healthy food, but it really did. On the bright side, I figure it tasted so bland it might actually be healthy. However, I don’t like that they won’t reveal the ingredient list. The press release hides it behind the “proprietary” screen. It does say no high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners, but it doesn’t say what is in it besides the so-marketable buzzwords banana, whey, fiber powder, espresso and chocolate powder. And frankly, when I throw those ingredients in a blender, I get something a lot more flavorful than this, so it’s a bit mysterious.
